01-06-2024 - DAN JONES HAS PASSED IN MONTGOMERY
As our class of 1957 ages we are losing more of our friends and classmates. the most recent is the former sheriff of Montgomery County,Dan Jones.

James Daniel “Dan” Jones, 84, was born to James D. Jones Sr. and Mary Carter Jones on October 12, 1939, in Montgomery. Dan was raised in Pike Road by his Grandparents since the age of five years following his father’s death. He continued to live in Pike Road and went to Pike Road School until the ninth grade. Dan Jones later attended and graduated Sidney Lanier High School in 1957. He served in several capacities as a Deputy Sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and later Sheriff of Montgomery County from 1991-1999.

Dan met and married the love of his life, Carol Sachar, and lived in Pike Road together raising three children. He was dedicated to his family and to his church. Dan is survived by his children; James “Jimmy” Daniel Jones Jr. (Sandy); Robert Warren Jones (Kelly); and Genger Jones Gallup. He was blessed and proud of his six grandchildren; Erin Peyton Bright (Chad); James Daniel Jones III; Jasmine Martin Anderson (Eric); Hunter Council Strothers; Luke Henry Stabler; Coleman James Stabler; and Meryn Grace Gallup. Also five Great-Grandchildren; Carter Bright; Owen Bright; Reese Bright; Emily Anderson; and Brooklyn Anderson. He is also survived by his beloved sister Mary Claire Wilson (Ray) and her daughters Tracy Wilson-James; Lisa Wilson. Beloved Brother and Sister In-Laws; Robert Sachar (Linda) and Rubyanne Henley (Hoyt). Dan was also blessed with many cousins and friends from Pike Road. He would also want to include his good friend Jessie Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons and The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard.

Visitation is set for Monday, January 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Montgomery. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ridgecrest Baptist Church or the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches at alabamasheriffsyouthranches.org.
